Are you looking for natural ways to prepare for labor and delivery? Are you in the final days or weeks of pregnancy and beyond ready to get that baby out? Acupuncture can help!

Beginning around 36 weeks, acupuncture can help to prepare an expectant mama for a smooth and efficient delivery by reducing stress, promoting optimal blood flow to the uterus and by working with the nervous system to prepare the cervix and uterus for delivery.

Acupuncture treatments can reduce any stress and anxiety that may be present, and can also slowly and comfortably promote the ripening of the cervix. Along with acupuncture, we may also recommend supplements and foods to support this process.

We are never forceful and always follow your body’s lead. Working in tandem with your midwife or doctor, when your body starts showing signs that it’s preparing for labor, we can support you through the various stages to help reduce stress, making labor more comfortable. When the cervix is ripe and baby is in the appropriate position, usually around 39-40 weeks, acupuncture can be used to initiate contractions of the uterus, promoting the start of labor.

Some early signs of labor include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Low back ache
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Bloody vaginal discharge
  • Cramping
  • Dilation of the cervix

If you’re preparing for delivery and looking for a dedicated acupuncturist to help you through the stages of labor, we invite you to give us a call at 619-512-9783 or schedule an appointment online. We’re here to help, and would love to be a part of your labor and delivery story.
